Unwanted hair growth

Unwanted hair growth is a common problem. Especially with hormonal fluctuations, such as during puberty, during pregnancy or around menopause. Women can experience facial hair growth and sometimes a heavier hair pattern on the body. Every day we help many women get rid of these disturbing hairs. Epilating or waxing stiff hair provides only a short-term improvement and often leads to other discomforts, such as restless and damaged skin. Fortunately, with our skin therapeutic laser treatments we can permanently remove up to 90% of the hair. A sustainable solution that boosts your self-confidence.

Permanent hair removal

At Skin Project we work with the Diolaze XL laser from Inmode. The Diolaze XL consists of a Diode laser (810nm.) combined with a Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm.). So it is two laser techniques in one. This is one of the most advanced hair removal lasers and suitable for all skin types.

The laser treatment focuses on the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The laser recognizes the dark hairs and gives each hair a pulse of light that is converted into heat. This heat penetrates to the breeding ground of the hair and affects it permanently. As a result, no new hair will grow back in this spot.

We work with medically certified laser equipment. The Diolaze carries the strict FDA quality mark, which monitors the safety of treatment and equipment. So you are in safe hands with us.

Therapy

The treatment starts with inspecting and cleaning the skin, after which the settings are tailor-made. We start with a test 'pulse'. The laser makes it feel like a rubber band is being shot against the skin. It is a short heat sensation, which disappears immediately afterwards. Thanks to the cooling system in the laser, the skin is immediately cooled and the treatment is well tolerated. After the treatment, the skin may be red, lumpy and warm to the touch. This is always only temporary. Within about 2 weeks, the hairs will become thinner or permanently disappear.

Important to know

During the treatment process, it is important that you do not epilate, resin or wax 6 weeks before the treatment, because this ensures that there are no hairs present in the hair follicles that are needed for laser treatment to destroy the breeding ground. You can shave. It is even important to shave the hair 1-2 days before the treatment. In general, treatment can be continued in the summer. It is important to protect the skin from the sun with a cream with a high sun factor.

A good and safe laser hair removal treatment is not self-evident. There are many lasers and clinics that do not give the desired result. At Skin Project you will be treated by an experienced skin therapist who has a lot of experience with different skin types. We are critical in hiring our skin therapists and choosing our equipment and products. That way you get the best result. We also give honest and reliable advice, because we know how annoying it is when you are sent from pillar to post. We always aim for the best achievable result.

What effect can you expect?

It is important to know that hair has a number of different growth phases. Since hair can only be destroyed in a specific growth phase, multiple treatments are always necessary. The optimal result is obtained from a series of consecutive treatments, at intervals of 6 weeks. Depending on the desired result, we recommend an average of 6-10 treatments for a 90% reduction of the dark hair. Initially it is an investment in yourself, in the long run you will save money compared to other hair removal methods.

Reimbursement health insurance

Treatment for permanent facial hair removal for men and women can be reimbursed under the additional health insurance. The amount of your reimbursement depends on your insurance. In the case of reimbursements from the supplementary insurance, no claim is made on your deductible. For transgenders, the reimbursement usually comes from the basic insurance. Skin Project is recognized by all health insurers

transgender hair removal

A lot can be involved in a transition process, including certain wishes in the hair pattern. Both trans men and trans women (16 years and older) are welcome at Skin Project for laser hair removal treatments that are applied in the beard area and/or the genital area. The latter prior to a sex change operation.

This treatment process takes place in collaboration with the VU medical center (VUmc) in Amsterdam, who have concluded a contract with Skin Project. The skin therapists of Skin Project work according to a specially drawn up treatment protocol and are aware of all recommendations from the Knowledge and Care Center for Gender Dysphoria and the light/laser expert group of the Dutch Association of Skin Therapists.

Transgender clients have a permanent skin therapist during the treatment process. We do everything we can to make the treatment comfortable. You can count on our understanding and integrity.

Over laserontharen

Which laser will I be treated with?

At Skin Project we work with the Diolaze XL laser from Inmode. The Diolaze XL consists of a Diode laser (810nm.) combined with a Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm.). So it is two laser techniques in one. This is one of the most advanced hair removal lasers and suitable for all skin types.

Is permanent hair removal reimbursed?
Other clinics are cheaper or promise faster results. How is this possible?

There is a big difference between the types of laser equipment, (no) training of practitioners and marketing tricks, where promises are made that are simply not true. We understand that it is very difficult for a consumer to see the wood for the trees.

Tip 1: does it sound too good to be true? Then that is often the case.

Tip 2: Check whether your practitioner is registered in the Paramedics Quality Register.

Tip 3: Always ask which laser you are being treated with and whether it has a valid medical CE approval.

We have consciously opted for a high-quality medical laser. This is to guarantee the best results and to be able to treat all skin types. The investment is therefore many times higher than for less good equipment.

Can I be treated during my pregnancy?

No, we do not continue treatment during pregnancy. Purely because no research has been done on whether it can be harmful to the baby. Safety is always our top priority!

Is the effect permanent?
Does shaving produce more hair?

This is a persistent fable that we often hear. The answer is very clear: no, this is not the case. The hair may temporarily feel harder because the diameter of the hair is slightly thicker than the end of the hair follicle.
